Workshops on educational and labor guidance for asylum seekers and refugees

INEW’s educational and labor guidance staff was summoned by FUNDACIÓN COMISIÓN CATÓLICA ARGENTINA DE MIGRACIONES (F.C.C.A.M) through the Project of Refugees and Asylum Seekers coordinated by Lic. Jorge J. Fernández to develop educational and labor guidance workshops for the youth and adults
06/26/2017

Said foundation supports the refugee population when arriving to the country, and provides assistance in legal, education and labor-related matters.

“When learning about the characteristics of the population, we observe that many incoming refugees have a professional career but they are unable to exercise it for difficulties, such as the language, the time devoted to authenticate their diplomas, among others. Besides, many times they do not know what to study because they are not familiar with Argentina’s job offers. They usually focus on studying to get a job immediately and in this respect, it is necessary that they learn to manage their anxieties, as they have to reset their lives and redefine it in all respects”, Silvina Prainito, workshop facilitator, stated.

Julián Sikora, also responsible for the workshops, added, "we learn about their stories, their educational and labor experiences, their interests and expectations. In addition, we address the differences between each educational level and enrollment requirements, scopes and types of institutions”.

Then, the workshop facilitators worked in the preparation of CV, types of job interviews and job search, and provide information on the educational paths in which many of them were interested, as well as in vocational training courses.

With this kind of proposals, INEW aims at promoting equity and equality of opportunities in exercising the right to education and work of all people. We seek to provide opportunities for personal and social development encouraging the access to information in educational and labor matters, which will offer a wide range of possibilities to face the changes and adversities they suffer when entering the country.
